What are song schools? What type of music did people sing and learn?

Singing was considered a very important subject in medieval times. The standard type of singing was practiced at churches. Students at song schools were taught liturgical chants-songs such as hymns and psalms. There were song schools with broader curriculum and the children were taught grammar and writing. Lots of children loved singing. There were many genres of music and many songs were taught and lots were very popular. Medieval music was sacred and secular.
Some children didn't go to song schools. It wasn't required by law to go to song schools really song schools are just fun schools to go to and learn songs and sing. Lots of children loved singing and went to songs schools. They all learned lots of different songs and had fun while at song schools. Types of genres that were learned were liturgical genre, chants, clausula and polyphonic.
